I have thought a LOT about this whole 50 Shades of . . . smut . . . ordeal. The movie's out, and I shudder to think how much money the box office raked in from the thousands (upon thousands) of women and men who flocked to the theaters to watch it tonight. Last week I saw this photo on Facebook, and my scrolling stopped. The quote speaks for itself:
I have a lot of things I could say—and, honestly, want to say—about this topic (unfortunately my interest in warning against this comes from the "please learn from my past experiences for your good!" state of mind, but too many are like me–you have to learn it for yourself, the hard way. I pray you don't, though!). I'm not entirely sure that another blog post on this would make a lot of impact, to be honest. There is such a thing as too many words. Instead I am including five links to five different blog posts I have read over the past few weeks that encapsulate this phenomenon quite well. If you've not read these yet, I encourage you to do so.
This isn't about the movie directly, but it is a relevant article to read. I encourage you to do so.
I'm sure there will be much more to be said in the coming weeks about this, but for now, I leave you with this thought:
- Even the co-stars of the movie think 50 Shades of Grey is awful (and maybe even a bit like Hitler)
- If You’re a Fan of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ Please Seek Counseling by Matt Walsh
- When Perversion is Called “Love” and Abuse is Entertainment by Marie Notcheva
- Fifty Shades of Nay: Sin Is a Needle, Not a Toy by Desiring God
- I'm Still Not Reading (or Watching) Fifty Shades
